Levels Explained

Level 1: Light touring and day-hiking
We'll be staying in hotels, lodges or estancias. Driving times between areas are between 1-5 hours, and all day hikes are on easy terrain and on marked trails. Ours hikes won't be more than 5 hours long. There are no restrictions on these itineraries.

Level 2: Touring and day-hiking
Same comfort in the lodging as in Level 1, but longer driving times in between areas (3-7 hours). Day hikes on marked trails, some with moderate to sharp elevation change.

Level 3: Backpacking and multi-day hiking
Multi-day hiking on marked trails, with the assistance of horses or porters to carry loads to the camps. Most of the nights spent in comfortable tents, with some nights spent in hostels. More strenuos hiking to reach scenic vantage points is an option.

Level 4: Unsupported backpacking
Multi-day hiking, with full backpacks over varied terrain. Most nights spent in four-season tents, except for the beginning and end of the trip. All expedition members are expected to help with group tasks in some trips. Smaller client-to-guide ratio (usually 1 guide/assistant every 2 participants). Good condition is necessary to complete these trips.

Level 5: Backpacking/climbing expedition
Backpacking or climbing expedition over rugged, remote terrain. Excellent physical aptitude required, along with an M.D. release form. Proof of previous experience or technical skills may be required.
