Basecamps Trek itinerary - Patagonia's best backpacking.

This expedition hits some of the most attractive areas in Patagonia, alternating camping, lodging and hiking some of the less-traveled trails. We'll spend a couple nights in hostels. A large backpack and personal backpacking gear are necessary. For camping, we provide four-season tents, a dining tent, tables and chairs when possible. Our experienced cook will delight you with some traditional Argentinian dishes.

For this season we've added more camping, and more hiking. Thank you for the great feedback we've received!

Day 1: Arrive in Buenos Aires. Transfer to hotel. Hotel Night in Buenos Aires included.

Day 2: Arrive in El Calafate and bus transfer to El Chalten, 200 km north. Meal provided: dinner. Night in Rancho Grande Hostel.

Day 3: Hike to Fitz Roy basecamp. While our staff sets up camp, we'll continue to Laguna de los Tres, the closest viewpoint to the mountain. Estimated hiking time: 5-6 hours. Meals provided: breakfast, bagged lunch, dinner. Camping night.

Day 4: We'll explore one of the less-traveled trails that connects this camp with Cerro Torre basecamp. On our way to camp De Agostini we'll hike past Madre and Hija lagoons. Estimated hiking time: 4-5 hours. Meals provided: breakfast, bagged lunch, dinner. Camping night.

Day 5: Excursion to the Cerro Torre Glacier. From our basecamp we'll cross the Fitz Roy River via a Tyrolean traverse and approach the glacier, where we'll strap on crampons to hike on the ice. We'll come back to camp in the afternoon and head to El Chalten. Estimated hiking and excursion time: 8-9 hours. Meals provided: breakfast, bagged lunch, dinner. Night in Rancho Grande Hostel.

Day 6: Bus transfer to El Calafate and free afternoon. Meals provided: breakfast, lunch, dinner. Night in Calafate Hostel.

Day 7: Drive to the Perito Moreno Glacier, 70 km from El Calafate. This glacier is designated by the United Nations as a "World Heritage Site" for its astonishing beauty. We'll cross the lake on a boat and strap on crampons to our boots to hike on top of the glacier. Meals provided: breakfast, bagged lunch, dinner. Night in Calafate Hostel.

Day 8:Early we'll head towards the Torres del Paine National Park, where we'll find the incredible granite towers that this park is named after. Here it's possible to appreciate concentrations of distinct Patagonic fauna: guanacos, choiques and several species of birds. A serene crossing of Lake Pehoe will set us close to our first camp. Meals provided: breakfast, bagged lunch, dinner. Camping in Camp Pehoe.

Day 9: Hike to Grey Lake. A viewpoint into the Grey glacier, that calves into the namesake lake. It is possible to witness icebergs calving into the frigid waters, and to experience some of the infamous Patagonian winds here. Estimated hiking time: 6-7 hours. Meals provided: breakfast, bagged lunch, dinner. Camping in Camp Pehoe.

Day 10: Hike to Valle del Francés. This valley boasts one of the best viewpoints in the park. You'll be able to admire the Cuernos and the Paine Grande among other sheer, vertical walls. Estimated hiking time: 8-9 hours. Meals provided: breakfast, bagged lunch, dinner. Camping in Camp Los Cuernos.

Day 11: Hike to Campamento Las Torres. Under the stone sentinels of the Cuernos del Paine, our hike will follow the coastline of the Nordenskjold Lake. Estimated hiking time: 6-7 hours. Meals provided: breakfast, bagged lunch, dinner. Camping in Campamento Las Torres

Día 12: Day hike to the Torres viewpoint. Often confused with the Cuernos, the Torres are completely different features in the skyline of the park. Year after year, climbers from all over the world travel to these granite giants in hope of completing the demanding ascents. This is a strenous hike, short but with a steep elevation gain, on narrow trails. Our reward will be to get a really close look at the walls. Estimated hiking time: 8-9 hours. Meals provided: breakfast, bagged lunch, dinner.

Day 13: Transfer to El Calafate. We'll spend our last night resting in the Calafate Hostel and exploring this small community. Meals provided: breakfast, bagged lunch, dinner.

Day 14: Transfer to El calafate airport to catch your flight to Buenos Aires in the morning.
